The bit Sonic games are some of my favorite games of all time and Sega went all in with this one. It was so big that it had to be split into two games for crying out loud! However, Sega went all in with this one.
Once again Robotnik is causing trouble. However, he is being assisted by Knuckles who thinks that Sonic is bad, not to mention there is now a giant Chaos Emerald as well. The visuals of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 are some of the best that the Genesis has to offer.
The leap from Sonic 2 to this is just staggering and it is one aspect of the game that does not get talked about enough for me. Each of the zones has its own style, but the amount of details and scope of each one is amazing. Each section of the game has its own theme and style. The soundtrack is amazing as you would expect from a Sonic game. While we all know that the tunes from the first game are classics. If I had to pick a favorite soundtrack from the Sonic series hands down it would be Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
There has always been the rumor that Michael Jackson had something to do with this. I do not know for sure if that is true I like to think it is what I can tell you for sure is that the music in this game is awesome!
The biggest complaint that most people and myself have about this game is the length. It is far too short! While the game is very short, the levels are rather large, there is a new mini-game, and getting those Chaos Emeralds is as tough as it has ever been. So yes, you can get through the game fairly quickly, but the fact is this game is amazing from start to end.
Sonic controls just like he always has done. There are some new things added to the game. Tails is much more useful this time around and if you are stuck being player 2 and you have to be Tails, it is much more enjoyable.
The biggest difference in the gameplay is the power-ups. Now Mario can no longer judge Sonic for a lack of power-ups as Sonic has some of his own. He can use a fire shield that can make him burst forward in a flame ball! A water bubble that lets him breathe underwater and bounce, he can also use a magnetic shield that will attract rings. These are a lot of fun to use and they let you take a hit before you lose your rings.
Look we all know that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is only half the experience of what Sega intended. It is a bit on the short side, but from start to end this is one hell of a thrill ride and it is the perfect challenge for those of us who had mastered Sonic 1 and 2. Sonic 3 was a popular game when it came out for genesis you could play as sonic or tails or use them as a team and with sonic and knukles locked on you could also play as knukles this is the first game where you could use tails flying ability and with the the player 2 controls you could control tails if you were playing as sonic and tails and use taild to collect rings and destroy enimeseasly because he had infininte live and you could also use tails to lift sonic into the air!
The Sonic warrior returns! And what a sequel! Robotnik is still alive big surprise! Having crash-landed his Death Egg ship on mysterious Floating Island, Robotnik plans to use the power of the Chaos Emeralds to repair it. And who can he get to help him in this wilderness? Why, Knuckles. He's Robotnik's latest henchman, and he's a red I-roll-up-in-a-ball-too echidna.
The only living descendant of a lost civilization a civilization of echidnas, presumably , Knuckles has been duped into believing that Sonic and Tails are his enemies. It doesn't take long for him to steal the emeralds, and now Sonic must get them back before Robotnik can launch his Death Egg! Each of Sonic 3's six new zones are three times as big as In Sonic 2, which many criticized for its Sonic 3 is packed with new enemies to battle and new items for Sonic and Tails to use.
The graphics are a knockout, and nearly all the character animation was painstakingly rendered using 3-D models instead of flat cartoons, making it smooth, smooth, smooth. Watch Sonic tumble and spin! Sequels can be deadly, but a few classic characters can successfully return to video games again and again. Until now, Mega Man and Mario have been the kings of the replay pile, but the popular 'hog's making a bid to wallow at the top with this excellent addition to his collection of adventures.

Bet you can guess what happens next! At first glance, Sonic 3's game play is identical to the prior Sonic sagas.
A closer look, though, shows some very def additions and improvements to the formula. The six Zones on the Floating Island are new.
I have the original release still factory sealed in the large hard paper box in good condition. I also have another copy that's also brand new but only in the original jewel case and unsealed by me to have as a pristine archive copy for physical observation.
And then I also have 2 copies of the Expert Software release from , with one being my original I had as a kid that I played and the other a like-new copy I found at a thrift store for a dollar. I'm glad I can say I have my holy grail in my own collection. A classic the likes of which may never see again, let alone in an official physical format. Sonic 3 points. Zack 1 point.
